Japan’s Tadanari Lee scored the single goal of the match deep into the second period of extra time to win them the Asian Cup 2011 against Australia. the goal reminded me of the goal scored by the great Zinadine Zidane in the 2002 UEFA Champions League against Bayer Leverkusen.

Dhiraagu’s FIFA World Cup 2010 SMS Quiz Answers

// May 25th, 2010 // 1 Comment » // Sports

So World Cup fever is catching on in the Maldives and I am no exception. For the record I am a fan of Brazil through thick and thin. If not Brazil then I hope Argentina wins it for Messi’s sake. No matter how stellar his performances are for Barcelona he can’t be counted among the greats until he wins a World Cup.

As part of the commercialization of the World Cup and the emergence of  SMS Quizes as the latest craze in the country, many companies and media broadcasters are promoting many competitions that can be won by sending SMS. I have to also note the large number of Sony Bravia LCD TVs up for grabs.

One such quiz is being run by Dhiraagu. Here is what they have to say about it:

World Cup SMS Quiz, open for all Dhiraagu Mobile Customers

  • Correctly answer all 10 questions of the World Cup SMS Quiz for entry into a Lucky Draw, with a prize of a 42” LCD TV and Home Theatre System for each of 3 winners.
  • To take part in the Quiz, text the letters WC to 400. You will receive 10 questions, and following your answer to the last question, you will receive your score. If you answer all 10 correctly, you will be entered into the Lucky Draw.
  • To increase your chances of winning, you can take part in the Quiz as many times as you like. Each SMS sent for the Quiz is charged at Rf. 1.

You can check out their full press release on the Dhiraagu website.

For those of you who would like to take part in this, here are the questions and answers. The correct option is in bold and the text to reply in the sms is given after each question.

Another Round of UEFA Champions League Fantasy Football

// September 13th, 2009 // No Comments » // Sports

The group stages of the UEFA Champions League is going to start on the 15th and as always this means UCL Fantasy. I have been playing it for the past couple of years and it’s lots of fun. To play, I have to select players from the teams playing in the competition and I get points depending on how they play in the real games. Sony is giving great prizes for the best team managers including the ultra cool Sony PSPgo. Unfortunately a close look at the terms of the game says that only people from countries registered in UEFA are eligible to win prizes. But that doesn’t stop us from enjoying the game right?

Once you have a team you can make leagues and compete with your friends. Apart from playing with a couple of my friends I try to be in the Top 10 of the teams from the Maldives. Let’s see how I do this time around eh? :)

On match day one my most anticipated match would be FC Internazionale Milano vs FC Barcelona. Of course the drama in the Spanish League between Barca and Real Madrid is bound to spill over into UCL too. And Liverpool is out to prove their mettle again against Manchester United and Chelsea. It’s going to be one exciting season. You can check out the standing and match schedule on the UEFA site.

If you decide to join the game why not join my league and challenge me? :P You have to make your team before the 15th to play on match day 1. My league code is 65668-14091.

So who do you think will win the league this season?
